Drug product & biopharmaceutics consulting
Strategic input on formulation and drug product development, with deep specialism in nanomedicines, long-acting injectables and other complex delivery systems. I work across small molecules, peptides, proteins and nucleic acids. At the core is formulation design and bridging strategy: linking in vitro data to in vivo performance.
Scientific content, training and speaking
I author whitepapers, technical articles, book chapters, presentations and website copy for pharma and biotech companies, turning complex science into something clear and accessible. I also develop and deliver specialist training in partnership with training providers, and speak at conferences, seminars and webinars.

About
About Thalassa Clara
Thalassa is the divine personification of the primordial sea. Clara is Latin for clear, and a translation of my own name. I’m also a keen open water swimmer: no lane ropes, just water you can’t see the bottom of. I’ve learned to sight the clearest line through it and trust my own judgement, often in water I haven’t swum before. That’s the image behind the company: cutting through the weeds of complex drug development, into open, clearer water.
About me
I’m Claire Patterson (MPharm Hons PhD), a pharmaceutical scientist with nineteen years in complex drug product development. My career spans hospital and community pharmacy, large pharma and, most recently, a director role leading formulation and CMC work at a CDMO, supporting biotechs from late discovery onwards.
My PhD, at UCL School of Pharmacy, was on subcutaneous microspheres and long-acting injectables. I have a peer-reviewed publication record in biopharmaceutics, nanomedicine and formulation science, and have joined invited conference panels (see full publications).
Working together
Support ranges from a focused review of a specific technical question, often as a fixed-price first piece of work, to ongoing advisory support across a programme, to part-time technical leadership on a defined scope.
You can engage me directly or through the consulting networks and partners I work with. Either way, you’re working with me. When a project needs expertise outside my own, I’ll collaborate with specialist colleagues or point you to someone better placed to help.

Much of my work is with early-stage biotechs, where funding is finite and timelines are investor-driven. I help you prioritise: what needs doing now, what can wait, and where the real risk sits.
