Why we process your data

We process personal data for one or more of these reasons:

• To respond to enquiries you send us. Our legitimate interest in running a consultancy business that people can contact, or performance of a contract once a Work Order or engagement is in place.
• To meet our legal obligations. For example, keeping business and tax records for the period required by law.
• To understand how the website is used. Only where you’ve consented to analytics cookies, see Cookies below.

We don’t use your data for marketing unless you separately ask to be added to a mailing list, and we don’t sell it or share it for anyone else’s marketing purposes.

Information we collect

Information you give us. This site doesn’t have a contact form. Where you email claire@thalassaclara.com directly, we hold that message and any personal data in it, such as your name, email address, and the content of your message, as ordinary business correspondence.

Information we collect automatically. Like most websites, this site may use cookies or similar technology to understand how it’s used, for example through Jetpack Stats, a WordPress.com service. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, and which pages you visit. See Cookies below.

Information from other sources. We don’t currently buy in data or receive data about website visitors from third parties.

Links to other sites. This site links out to LinkedIn and Google Scholar. Those are separate services with their own privacy notices, which this notice doesn’t cover.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website.

This site is static, with no login area or shopping cart, so it doesn’t need cookies to function for a visitor. We run Jetpack Stats, a WordPress.com analytics service, to understand how the site is used. This sets a small number of analytics cookies, which are only active once you’ve given consent via the cookie banner shown when you first visit this site.

You can withdraw consent, or control or delete cookies at any time, through the banner or your browser settings.

How long we keep your data

We keep business correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to manage the relevant enquiry or relationship, and afterward in line with standard UK record-keeping practice, for example the six-year period commonly applied to tax and accounting records. We don’t keep personal data longer than needed for these purposes. Analytics data, where collected, is retained only as long as the underlying service (Jetpack Stats) retains it by default.

Who we share your data with

We don’t sell personal data. We may share it with:

• Service providers who help run the site and business: Automattic / WordPress.com, who host this website, and Microsoft, who host claire@thalassaclara.com.
• Authorities, where the law requires it: for example HMRC or a relevant regulator.

Sending data outside the UK

WordPress.com is operated by Automattic, a US company, so some data may be processed outside the UK. Where this happens, it’s done under an approved safeguard such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Addendum.

Your rights

How to complain. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, email claire@thalassaclara.com first, we’d welcome the chance to resolve it directly. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.

How to withdraw your consent. Where we rely on your consent, for example for analytics cookies, you can withdraw it at any time through your browser settings or by emailing claire@thalassaclara.com. This won’t affect anything already done on the basis of consent you’d previously given.

Other rights. You can also ask us to confirm what data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, delete it, restrict or object to certain processing, or provide it in a portable format. Email claire@thalassaclara.com to exercise any of these.

Any changes we make to this notice will be posted on this page. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
